"Brilliant it's online but I call them"

I went a couple of weeks ago. They're brilliant when you get to see a doctor. It's just the receptionists. They're online but I prefer to call them and they'll give you an appointment after you're triaged. That particular day I went down to surgery and they saw me the same day.

"It's okay"

It's okay once you get in. You have to call about 50 times to get through. If it's not urgent you can wait up to a month for an appointment.

We do appreciate the frustrations of trying to contact us during peak times, with the Surgery reviewing as many solutions to help combat the soaring demand upon our services.
Our routine appointments are released at scheduled intervals in an attempt to protect our capacity and ensure patients can receive a suitable appointment in efficient timeframe. Whilst we are always analysing methods to try and increase our clinical capacity, we would always encourage patients to check the NHS app for any cancelations or newly added appointments.

"Poor"

"Not very good"

We are sorry to hear that you are not satisfied with our services and our availability of appointments.
Since January 2025, the Surgery has managed to offer over 43,000 appointments to our patients and are consistently striving to increase this capacity even further.
We are sorry that despite our efforts you have still faced difficulty in obtaining appointments. Appointments can now be requested for routine purposes through our website, with our urgent appointments for acute presentations being realised at 8:30am on each day, for that day.

"Can't get appointments easily"

The GPs aren't bad but I can't get appointments easily. Sometimes I have to go in and book and they book me in for 10 weeks time.

We are sorry to hear of your dissatisfaction towards our service, in particular the wait time for appointments.
Whilst the Surgery are aware of extended wait times for routine appointments due to the unprecedented pressure the Health Sector is facing, our appointments are released 6 weeks at a time in an effort to reduce wait times by protecting routine appointment availability.
A proportion of our appointments are made available on the day and are reserved for urgent, acute medical needs to meet the demands of our local community. The Surgery and its management team are consistently striving to increase its clinical capacity in this area due to the heightened needs from our patients. Whilst this recruitment drive is being initiated, our administrative team are endeavouring to ensure that patients still see a clinician within an appropriate time frame, allocated towards the appropriate appointment type.

"Brilliant"

I do it all by phone, they're very good. They do little things and keep me updates. They do regular diabetes checks too. They're brilliant.

"Good doctors"

My doctors are good, you can get appointments quite easily
this was not the case with my old GPs hence I had to move, my one gripe is they wont do house visits and sometimes I could do with seeing a doctor but I'm too unwell to drive.

A two week waiting time is their standard response until I tell them I have cancer and they get me in the same day.

Thank you for leaving your feedback. As previously stated within our feedback responses on this page, the Surgery only has a limited capacity of appointments of which we must triage and signpost effectively based on the presenting symptom(s).
For routine queries of a non-urgent nature, appointment wait times can vary, with the Surgery aiming for these waiting times to be under 2 weeks.

For matters for more urgent attention, the Surgery\'s administrative team try their best to book a patient as soon as possible. For those patients with compromised immune systems, such as those undergoing treatments for cancer, they would fall into this category.

"Great staff and the care too"

It's really easy to access appointments and easy to book them. It can be a long wait but it is still shorter than the waits at my previous GP surgery. The staff and the care is great.

"Good service"

A good service but hard to get to see the GP. You can't preempt when your going to be sick and need an appointment.

For the month of December 2024, the Surgery offered 5010 clinical appointments- this is just under 0.5 per patient, with us still looking at improving upon this figure further.

"They're very good"

They referred my 6 month old 4 months ago and I kept asking how long it would take but they didn't know. It's a good practice in general. They give good appointments and visit the baby every 2 weeks. They are very good.

"You have to wait a while"

You wait a while when you go there. If I have an appointment at 4:30 I wont get in until at least 20 minutes later. It's not their fault though. You can't get through to them on the phones though.

"Everything is brilliant there"

They are brilliant. Everything from staff to appointments. Nothing is too much trouble for them. If you need an appointment you can see them just like that.

"Never had any problems with them"

I've been with them for years. I've never had a problem with getting an appointment. They are okay with patients care for dementia. The doctor called and checked if he was still okay to drive. They got in touch quickly. Every practice should have a dementia specialist. Had a dementia review in March with the nurse but it was like the blind leading the blind.

"Unhelpful information"

They said I would have to wait for a letter to come through for a referral and I asked how long. They said they didn't know, which was unhelpful for me.

When dealing with and processing referrals linked to Secondary care or specialist fields, the Surgery has no influence over the wait times or how these departments operate, with this information often being very difficult to obtain.

"Been good for over 50 years"

I have been registered here for over 50 years and they have been good. The appointments are a bit dodgy now compared to years ago but the doctors are really good and I can't complain. The receptionists are good and polite too.

"I use A&E instead of my GP"

It's nearly impossible to get an appointment. I go to A&E straight away rather than wasting my time on the phone to get a GP appointment.

"I never have any issues with them"

They are good. I never really have any issues with them. I can see a GP and I can see a nurse, though I know I only use them when I really need to. I will always seek advice from my pharmacist before entering the GP.

"You can get appointments for children."

I have seen my midwife there for the past 12 weeks and they made an appointment for the 20 week scan. They are alright in general at getting appointments if you need them. You are more likely to get an appointment for your child than yourself.

"The questions asked are not beneficial."

I phoned them and they told me to go to the hospital. They call me every 12 months and talk me through the process. They've changed as just before the pandemic, I didn't have a check up for 3 years. The first one I had was last year and they didn't ask any dementia related questions. It's a hub surgery and other patients get sent there with the new one. All she said was she was a locum and didn't specialise in dementia and it didn't feel beneficial. The doctors used to have an audiologist but they left and now they refer to Specsavers and you get the care for free.

Due to changes within the \'GMS\' contract GP\'s must work with, we are now unable to provide audiologist services from our building. We apologise for any inconvenience caused however we are happy to hear that you have still been able to receive treatment through an alternative healthcare provider.

We also apologise if you feel that the consultation completed by a locum clinician was not to the required standard. West Heath Surgery has increased the size of its clinical team, which will benefit our patients when specialist reviews are required in the future.

"They arranged for me to go to hospital."

Sometimes they're alright. Sometimes not. I called them to come out to me because I was bad with my knees and they didn't come out. They did sort for me to go to the hospital though.

"Busy all of the time."

They are busy all of the time and you have to call them for hours and still can't get hold of them.

The Surgery are sorry to hear that you have struggled to get in contact with us. Whilst we have a patient list size of 13500, the Surgery is open for longer across 7 days to ensure that patients have as much opportunity to contact us as possible.
The Surgery\'s lines are open 8:30-20:00 weekdays, 9:00-14:00 Saturdays and 8:00-12:00 Sundays.

"Can't look at rashes over the phone"

Same complaint, not enough appointments. You wait 2 or 3 weeks for an appointment. They push for over the phone appointments but they can't look at rashes over the phone.

"Pretty alright when getting appointment"

Had to chase and reschedule midwife appointments because they have not arranged it. Pretty alright when getting appointment. For women’s issue got new prescription / medication but GP still dispensed old prescription. Feel like department don’t speak to each other or just pass the book.

I wasn't sleeping. Had a good doctor but he had an accident. They gave me medication to help with my migraines etc but then I got another doctor and felt I was pushed from one service to another.

With a recent drastic increase in respiratory cases of young children, demand on our services has risen by nearly 40% since December. West Heath Surgery has developed a Pediatric respiratory clinic to help manage this spike in demand and we hope that this helps effect our capacity of routine appointments.

"Can’t even get through on phone"

"Appalling service"

Appalling service. When you have an urgent medical problem and phone for appointment you are given an appointment for 3 weeks time. I am 70 years old and have only had 1 Covid vaccination, that was at the end of January. 4 months later I was still waiting for appointment for second vaccination, finally although disabled with severe mobility problems and Agraphobia managed to get myself to surgery at beginning of May. Although plenty of vaccine and nobody waiting, I was told by the manager XXX to "go away" as did not have appointment. He was extremely rude and disrespectful and would not let me go in for the vaccination although the doctor said I could go in as there was no problem. Now on November 25th I am still waiting for my second Covid vaccination. I have COPD and compromised Immune system ( chemotherapy) amongst other things but I am completely open to getting Covid as I have not been vaccinated. This Surgery could not care less about their patients.

The Surgery offers a variety of appointments for our patients needs, with \'routine\' slots being available for booking reasons such as Chronic disease management or follow-up appointments for prior concerns. \'Urgent\' appointments are also available for acute concerns that present themselves and require more immediate attention, with these appointments being released on the morning of that day.
Whilst the Surgery is always looking at ways to increase our clinical capacity, our urgent appointments can often be used very quickly due to the diverse needs of our patients. We apologize if you have been unable to utilize these appointments.
We must also apologize for your experience when trying to obtain a Covid-19 vaccination: in the early stages of the program, vaccine supplies were limited with the centre needing to utilize an appointment based booking system to ensure minimal wastage of vaccine. Whilst the centre may have seemed quiet upon your arrival, the vaccination centre would have been unable to offer you a vaccine unless a prior booking had been made.
The Surgery had sent multiple communications to all patients who were eligible for a Covid-19 vaccination- if you had faced a delay in receiving any of your vaccines, please contact the Surgery on 0121 476 1135 to ensure your contact details are correct.

"Waited 4 months for a smear test"

Great until you need an appointment, waited 4 months for a smear test to then be told there isn't even a back log any more absolute joke when I've had abnormal smears before. Don't get me started on normal appointments won't even see my son and haven't since he was 10 weeks old even though he stopped feeding had a raging temperature on a separate occasion then myself I haven't been able to see anyone for the whole of lockdown even thought I have a lot of conditions which I need blood tests for again not interested

"I was disgusted by her lack of concern and left. West heath medical centre"

I had an appointment to discuss a scan I had on my back. I arrived in plenty of time. After almost one hour(, I was the only person waiting) I went downstairs to receptionist and told her I was leaving as no one had called me. She asked me to wait while she rang the physiotherapist. With that the person appeared out of no where and said she would see me now. I told her I was disgusted by her lack of concern and left.

"Totally Inept Service"

From the beginning, this surgery proved useless in providing any reasonable service. Doctors very reluctant to refer to specialists and only did so once an emergency situation (of their own making) materialized.
Doctors failing to provide reviews that they themselves had suggested.
Nurses cancelling appointments and going off shift during pre-planned appointments.
Basically, this surgery couldn't get anything right and consistently failed in 'open goal' type, 'no-brainer' situations. Very frustrating and costly to one's mental health.
I was completely directing my own health care under their 'service.'
West Heath Surgery is hazardous to your health and should have a government health warning.

"I was left waiting 30 mins."

I had an appointment to discuss the results of an MRI scan on my back. The woman totally ignored me, i was the only person in the waiting room. I complained at reception who made a call. I was then told she would see me. I told them no thanks!! To be left sitting when they had no one with them is totally unaceptable.

Just recovering from heart failure operation pacemaker/defubulater inserted nurse took my sutures out yesterday she did an excellent job without any pain. I was not kept waiting
