"Rude receptionists - not seen by GP"

I was 3 minutes late for my appointment and wasn't checked by the doctor. The receptionists told me to wait, I waited for 30 minutes but then was told that the doctor left. The receptionists were really rude and didn't care.

"They're okay"

They advised me to go to the hospital with my arm. They're okay and I can get appointments.

"Very difficult to get an appointment"

Very difficult to get an appointment and to see my own GP. Prescriptions requests take a long time.

"Appalling"

To start on a positive note, the nurses at the surgery are genuinely lovely and caring.

However, booking an appointment in advance—especially for those who work—can be extremely frustrating. The standard wait time is at least five weeks. On several occasions, I’ve experienced cancellations just a week or two before the scheduled date. When this happens, you're left with two options: wait another five weeks for a new appointment or go through the triage process again. If you're trying to see a doctor rather than a nurse, the wait is often even longer.

What’s more concerning is that this cycle of booking, waiting, and last-minute cancellations can repeat itself. If you try to raise a complaint, don’t expect a timely resolution. I lodged a complaint back in July 2024 and have yet to receive a response.

Unfortunately, many of the reception staff are not helpful. Rather than offering support, they can be quite dismissive, often responding with phrases like “please don’t use that attitude with me,” even when their own tone is far from courteous.

"Quite happy with them"

Quite happy with them. I can get same day appointments. Good communication and the midwives are good too.

"Rude staff and no same day appointments"

Very difficult to get same day appointments. The minimum wait is 3 days. The reception staff and practice manager are all rude too.

"I am a stage 4 cancer patient"

I was told by the cancer alert line to phone my doctors for an emergency appointment as my temperature was 38.7 and I felt really unwell admittedly it was 10 in the morning I was told there were no appointments and told to ring 111. When I phoned 111 the told me to phone the doctors back as they have a duty of care for me to be seen by someone. I phoned back to and was told it didn't matter what 111 said I wasn't getting an appointment very rudely I then had to phone 111 back and they managed to get a doctor to phone me and send me some antibiotics to my local chemist HAD IT BEEN LEFT TO YOUR RECEPTIONISTS I COULD BE REALLY ILL OR DEAD never felt so left down after being at your surgery for the last 40 plus years

"Disgraceful"

Do not ever go with these doctors, the reception staff are often rude, I’ve had the phone put down on me before. They won't prescribe pain relief for an injury I was on morphine for in hospital, I feel like I've been treated worse than an animal, people shouldn't have to suffer for weeks without any relief, all I get told is that I should go back to the hospital, just passed on so they don't have to deal with you properly, when I went in because I couldn’t lift my arm the doctor didn't even bother checking me over, PLEASE think very carefully before signing up with these absolute jokers, they don't care about how you are feeling or whether you are in pain, I could get better pain relief over the counter.

"They don't take you seriously."

I registered with them and asked for a blood test as I was feeling tired. They ignored me. I've had no response. The GP is always busy and doesn't prioritise. They just don't take you seriously.

"Excellent GP"

Excellent. The GP is really good. They will see her when I make an appointment. They keep on top of care.

"Rude and rushed."

Reception staff are very rude and unhelpful. GPs rush through everything during appointments and don't listen to patients properly.

"I can't get an appointment"

I'm too scared to call them. I'm no 27 in the queue at 8AM. The don't offer call back. I have to keep calling and hope I can get an appointment. It's not good.

"The referral wait is frustrating"

My daughter was referred on for infections in the throat and sinus. We waited 3 years for a referral from the GP. They did another referral and the hospital said they didn't get it. It is so frustrating.

"They ask me a lot of questions"

They don't talk to me and they ask me a lot of questions. The nurse is meant to come out to do a diabetic review but the GPs will send a text message to tell us to book it when they know we have something coming up.

"Hard to get appointments"

It's difficult to get an appointment and you have to wait ages when you do get one. It takes too long to get the result of the test to be reviewed by the doctor I am diabetic and I just have to keep following up with them.

"The GPs, receptions and service are all good."

They are good and the service is okay. The reception staff are good. The doctors are good but you may not be able to see the same doctor. You don't always get an appointment and the wait on the lines can be long. That part is difficult.

"Very slow"

Very slow in giving appointments, test results and advice. They take ages to do things right.

"I have changed my GP"

I changed my GP and pharmacy from here as I couldn't get an appointment. They used to have a lovely doctor until she retired. I waited 6 weeks for an appointment and then they cancelled on the day. So I ended up leaving.

"It's useless seeing them so I go to A&E."

Firstly you don't get an appointment and secondly if you do get one they are of no help. It's useless to see them. I go to A&E straight away.

"Absolutely not fit for purpose"

Been with surgery 32 yrs and now left to another practise. Required a referral for shoulder operation and been ringing since Sept 22 no response at all and the worst 2 phone calls it took 140 and 204 calls before got though and then call was dropped,even walked into practise at 8.01 to be told we don't take appointments face to face, and rang in front of the staff only for call to be constantly dropped. This surgery is not fit for purpose

"Good service."

Helpful when you ring with enquiries I.e prescriptions.
Generally very good with referrals and follow up care.
Most appointments over the phone ,but feel would see you in house if necessary

"Every time I have to see a new doctor"

My GP left and I have depression & anxiety and every time I have to see a new doctor since last 12 months, I have to explain everything from start which is very difficult.

It can ring forever and when you are through they can’t give you an appointment.

"A lot of services over the computer"

They don't see me face to face, it's all over the phone. They're doing a lot of things over the computer and I don't use it. You can only ring doctors at a certain time.

"Referred me to hospital"

Since Covid, its been a little difficult. Something I could say, I have had to have a scan on my head. They booked a referral appointment for me at Solihull Hospital.

"Needs improvement"

I have been at this surgery many years and despite always hanging on the phone, got a face to face appt. Now with this new AccuRx system they tell you to use for almost everything is turned to accepting no more when they obviously get too many requests which is not acceptable. You still can't get a face to face appt unless you insist at your telephone appt which is doubling the gp time dealing with a patient. They have now opened the doors at the surgery when they were locked for patients to check own temperature, hand sanitise and wait in a small queuing area. Most patients don't follow instructions so could be bringing covid into the surgery. I can understand they were fed up getting up and down to let people in and out the door but leaving as it is, is not acceptable! They are also losing the nurse practitioner now too who was really good and use too many locums. They need to sort themselves out and go back to how good they were pre covid but without the rude receptionists.

"It has improved"

It has improved on the way you can book appointments etc via online ubt you cannot seem to get the time you want, as if you are working full time, it is best if you can go first thing or last thing so something should be done for the workers and all the other citizens go in between work times

"Not very satisfactory"

Good until Lockdown. very difficult nowt o get a face to face appointment and telephone consultations are not very satisfactory.

"Very inefficient staff"

Absolutely appalling. I have used this practice for over 50 years and have found it very good in all that time, however after my experience this week I have changed my mind. Having been in pain all weekend I called the surgery on Monday morning 8.30am to make an appointment to see my doctor and was greeted with message saying Swan Medical has new service that will allow you to contact a GP using AccuRx online. As I didn’t have a clue what that was I hung on for 20 minutes to speak to receptionist. I asked for urgent appointment to be told I must do it on line, I told her I don’t have a computer, she insisted I do it on line and she would send a text message and told me to press blue square and Doctor would call me that day. I did as she said and the message on there was all about COVID-19. I had no idea how to get out of that and waited all day for Doctor to call. At 4pm I called the surgery and asked if I was on doctor’s list, she said No. I told her what happened when I spoke to receptionist in morning and she asked if she had explained to me what to do; to which I answered she told me to press blue square! This girl was really helpful, explained the procedure for future use and made booking for me on Thursday 3rd December. One hour later I got
another text message from Swan Medical saying my doctor would call me on Wednesday. Instead of a call from Doctor I got another text message asking me to come to surgery at 9.50 Thursday morning, which I did, I sat in waiting room for half an hour, then asked if I was going to see doctor to be told doctor was calling my home and I wasn’t there!!! I was very angry now and demanded to see my doctor. My doctor apologised on behalf of the very inefficient staff and treated me with respect and dignity, when I told her the saga.

"speed up waiting times for appts"

Appointment systems and GPs good as you can get appointment on the day.
- Staff are working too long hours
- Local GPs need to open on Saturdays or 1 day late evening to cater for working people

"A good surgery"

The Swan Medical Centre provide a good GP and nursing service. I have recently been visiting for regular dressing changes after an injury to my leg. I was very concerned and fearful of complications because I have diabetes but the staff have been great providing me with regular appointments to have my dressings changed.
