Missed the fact that my father had a stroke
I have already raised a formal complaint with the practice manager (Tracey Humphries), as I believe this practice have been negligent regarding my father & his care.
He had a telephone consultation with a doctor (Dr Burns) on 21/04/2021 as he was experiencing sudden vision issues in his left eye, severe dizziness & headaches, difficulties with co-ordination & balance, confusion, difficulty retaining information and extreme fatigue. He then had another telephone consultation with a different doctor (Dr Sanchez) on 23/04/2021, but still no information was given in regards to what could be wrong, & they made the assumption that it was in relation to his diabetes and high blood pressure. He then saw this same doctor on 28/04/2021, who gave him a full physical examination, but was still unsure what was wrong, and my dad's symptoms worsened, but the GP still sent home. By 30/04/2021 my family decided enough was enough and took him straight to A&E, where they determined he had an ischemic stroke & needed immediate care. He is still currently in hospital & has been working with a physiotherapist & we are awaiting results for his CT scan & x-rays.
I am extremely angry & upset that this was missed by two doctors from the same GP practice. Googling symptoms of strokes myself, I can see that my father's symptoms lined up to this, so I cannot fathom why the doctors would not have sent him to hospital, even as a precautionary measure.
Due to Covid-19 I can understand & empathise with those working in the medical field currently, but surely something as serious as a stroke should have been picked up sooner, especially after a physical examination.
This is not the first, & I doubt it will be the last, time my family have had issues with this GP practice. They were constantly making & cancelling important appointments for my father with the diabetic nurse. His needles for his insulin had changed & no one had bothered to show him how to use these correctly. When we try to call you can never get through or make an appointment, & the receptionist always says to call the following day, but the cycle repeats & you cannot get through. My mother has been agony since March 2020 due to stomach issues, and they have still yet to complete something as basic as an intolerance test.
The staff at this GP can be rude & unprofessional. I feel as though there is no care or thought for their patients, and that they are literally just going through the motions.
Frankly, they need to be investigated, as I don't believe that my farther is the only one that they missed something important & serious with.
