Unkind unprofessional practice.
For a whole week, I have symptoms of a blocked nose, catarrh, cough and fever and a headache.
I was struggling to sleep with those symptoms and I was using paracetamol to alleviate the fever and drinking lots of warm fluids – including ginger, lemon and honey drinks. I attempted using strepsils and a cough syrup to alleviate the cough – which seemed to work but ended up not working as I kept coughing more at night and producing yellowish phlegm after about 3 days.
The blocked nostrils made me resort to using steamed inhalation with menthol during the evenings with Olbas oil during the day. This seemed to alleviate it a bit but the blocked nostrils, cough, production of yellowish phlegm were still present making it really difficult to breathe so I breathe with my mouth. Needless to say, this resulted in dryness of my oral surfaces.
For 4 days, I struggled to feed and after 2 days, I was no longer tolerating oral foods.
I managed to get an appointment booked after sending in an email to the reception of the GP surgery after an initial rejection triage.
During the session, the doctor shouted at me every single time trying all her best to dismiss my symptoms. Not minding the fact that I was in pain from a headache that was no longer responsive to paracetamol, not tolerating oral food for 4 days and drinks for 2 days, she unkindly poked my tongue with a spatula and unkindly shouted at me to open my eyes for her to check my eyes. She shouted unkindly throughout the session which made me feel really degraded as a human being.
After, poking my tongue unkindly with a spatula, she still shouted at me that I was not dehydrated enough and dismissed me telling me to go to the pharmacy and get oral medications (which I promptly and calmly pointed to her that I was not even tolerating oral drinks)
She saw me trembling while I was walking to the dustbin to drop a tissue I used to blow my nose and a clinical wipe I used to wipe my hands (to prevent infection spread) due to my weakness and yet kept on and on shouting at me telling me to open my eyes – that were sensitive to light (despite me having informed her that my eyes were sensitive to light)
Finally, she sort of ‘sent me home to die’ No help. No referrals. Nothing.
