"Refused to give me the medication"
I went to grab my daughters medication and they tried to close early. They said they wouldn't give it to me so I told them I wouldn't leave until I got the medication so they gave in and gave me the medication. They shouldn't be doing that to people with mental health conditions.
Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback to Healthwatch in relation to our Trust, though we are sorry to see we have not met your expectations and your problems obtaining the medication. Please do contact us at bwc.pals@nhs.net and we can assist you further. Best Wishes, the Patient Experience Team
"Very poor doctors"
I would like to complain about the service of the FTB Blaskely Centre.
I have been a patient of theirs for nearly a year and am seeking treatment for depression, my only symptom of that being extreme fatigue. I was referred to the FTB first when I took my first overdose last year, they came for a home visit and didn't contact me any further.
The same would have happened when I overdosed on antidepressants for the second time last year and I was referred to them by Heartlands Hospital for a consultation about schizophrenia, 2 months after I was admitted to a mental health hospital.
Within the mental hospital (Ticehurst Priory Mental Health Hospital), my condition was still not treated, the doctor there insisted for the 2 months to only want to treat my overdose. At the end, I was very uncomfortable and claustrophobic within the hospital. I pretended to have been treated at the end after begging for sertraline, which I was prescribed for the last week of my stay, but only as a relief. In reality, I was still extremely miserable and only wanted to leave so that I could self medicate because I had lost hope.
One of my complaints is the doctor that I have had to see there, Dr Syed Haq. I believe that he has done very poorly and put no effort into my treatment.
I will list the few complaints that I have about him:
*He told me in a recent appointment that I need to treat my depression by 'just getting out of bed' and has been rude to me after I complained how difficult it is for me to do tasks with my extreme fatigue.
*He accused me of being 'paranoid' and had written that on my record. In reality, I was frustrated that his treatments were not working and asked him to consider my cause and proper treatment for a moment.
*He had put me on duloxetine for 6 months, and also increased the dose during that period. After six months of consistently taking only that medication he said to me for the second time that the dose I was taking was still not sufficient for depression.
*I had asked for Dr Haq to refer me to therapy but he didn't go through with it, and insisted in my most recent appointment that I do it myself. I asked him to refer me because I know that I would receive my first therapy appointment faster.
*I had told him about my negative experiences with ssris and antipsychotics but he still wanted me to prescribe me both with a sleep aid and benzodiazepine on top.
*Shortly in the future I asked for the benzodiazepine and sleep aid prescription to take his word, but he also refused to prescribe them.
*He has diagnosed me with anxiety, although I have told him several times that my only symptom of depression is extreme fatigue because I lack anxiety.
*I have told FTB that my parents always take away my medication for me because they believe I am depressed because I 'do not pray' and 'am not lazy'. I gave them the resolution that I could pick up a prescription every month and take it directly to the pharmacy or pick up the medication from them which I have done in the past but they refuse to.
*following this issue, when the pharmacy asked Dr Haq why I was not picking up my medications he replied with that I have 'complacency issues'.
*He has threatened to discharge me for 'not taking his treatment' or 'wanting another doctor'.
The Centre itself has a 1 star rating on google and every review they have is terrible.

I have asked the Centre to change my psychiatrist, whom has a 7 month waiting list, which they agreed to. They continued to give me another appointment with Dr Haq, whom I asked not to see again because what he will write on my record will not be an accurate representation of my condition for future doctors.
He had phoned an appointment with me today, but because I asked not to have appointments with him, I gave no details to him. After, he immediately discharged me to my gp without telling me. The centre has told me to ask my GP for antidepressants.
I called again today, because I was in a really poor and suicidal mood, but the centre told me he had immediately discharged me to my gp and I cannot have another appointment. Please bear in mind this doctor told me himself that it would 'take weeks' to discharge me to my gp.
"good"

"Been under this service since the age of 11"
I've been under this service since about the age of 11 I am now 25. I've had nothing but problems with this service I haven't got a care coordinator or anything I don't understand why they haven't transferred me to the adult services. I've always got to make phone calls about my medication being ordered or arranging for blood tests. I've been inpatient free for over a year yet I'm still on fortnight medication and blood tests. I've only had 1 medical review since being out of hospital and it was a horrible experience they can't change my medication as I want to because apparently I'm on the waiting list to be transferred across to adult services but they've been saying that for months now. This place is a joke and they clearly don't care about the patients here they need more training to understand what it's like living with mental health.

"The worst service available"
I've been there nearly a year and I haven't even seen a doctor yet, I was given 2 face to face appointments that got changed into telephone consultations with no actual appointment times. I was promised to recieve help with councillers, psyciatrists and cbt which i have not recieved. I have troubles EVERY time i call for medications and can be left weeks at a time with no medication i suffer with a serious mental health condition this kind of leval of service is appalling and something seriously needs to be done.

"Absolute useless"
Came in twice now for prescription while on my lunch break and they haven’t even bothered to get it signed. Clearly everyone is on their lunch break like surely some should stay behind. Now waiting for 1 hour and 30 minutes to still get a prescription signed. Not to mention how useless this place is. Multiple medications have changed and they claim each time it will work. Someone needs to take further investigation with them

"So far found the whole service poor"
Recently referred from another site as this place is closer to my home. This is my first time but so far I have found the whole service poor. Just been seen by a nice doctor but not convinced I am going to get the support I needed. Communication with the GP could be better.
Thank you for taking the time to provide us with your feedback. We are so sorry to learn that you have found the service you have received as poor and you don’t feel that you are going to get the support you need. If you would like to discuss this further, please do not hesitate to contact our Patient Advice and Liaison Service (PALS) via email on bwc.pals@nhs.net or by telephone on 0121 333 8403. "Brilliant service"
Brilliant service. Service here is so much better than adult services. Everything explained well and i am involved in my treatment. Reception staff is brilliant and very helpful. I am being treated for ADHD. They involve my mom in all the aspects of my care. My older brother is under adult services and his life is in mess. FTB has signposted me to other places. Medication gets straight to the chemist which makes life so much easier. Always have same doctor, so consistency in care.
Dear Liam
Thank you for taking the time to provide us with your feedback. We are delighted to hear that you have had such a positive experience at Blakesley Road Hub and that you have found the care consistent. We hope you continue to have only positive experiences in your future care.

"They are really good"
I have been under the service for about 4 years. They are really good, always listen and tissues available. I’ve been offered a range of services i.e. CBT, Art Therapy and they also provide me lots of medication. Difficult to get the first appointment after that it’s quite easy to get further appointments. Initially I had weekly appointments but now every three months as I am stable.
Dear Keri
Thank you for taking the time to provide us with your lovely feedback. We are pleased to hear that you have been offered a range of services and that you are now in a position to be seen every three months. We hope you continue to have only positive experiences with Blakesley Road hub.

"No consistency of care"
I have found them hit & miss. I have been coming here for approximately 8 years. Very difficult to get an appointment and when I do get one its with different doctors so no consistency of care. The service is meant to be for vulnerable people but don’t feel its providing the service fully. When I see different doctors I get different messages and advice from them. Staff are OK but could be better , more supportive.
Dear Shivani
Thank you for taking the time to provide us with your feedback. We are sorry that you have not found the service supportive over the years. If you wish to discuss this further, please do not hesitate to contact our Patient Advice and Liaison Service (PALS) either via email on bwc.pals@nhs.net or via telephone on 0121 333 8403. "Limited parking spaces available"
Managed to park although only limited parking spaces available. Not very clearly signposted and quite difficult to find. Had to drive up and down a few times to locate the building. Was welcomed from receptionist upon arrival. Plenty of seats in the waiting area – nice and clean. Lots of leaflets and information available.
Thank you for taking the time to provide us with your comments. We are sorry to learn that you had trouble finding the hub, we will pass this on to the team. We are pleased that you found the waiting room to comfortable with plenty of information available. Best wishes, Patient Experience Team.
"The staff has done really well"
Grandson has good days and bad days. Some days he interacts well with the doctor other days not so much but the doctors are very patient. What is disappointing is the turnover of staff. There is no consistency which in turn affects my grandson’s well being because he sees it as distraction the staff has done really well, they go above & beyond to support the whole family. Because I work they arrange appointments around me CPN visits my grandson at home.
Thank you so much for taking the time to leave your feedback. We are sorry to hear that the turnover of staff has affected your grandson’s wellbeing. Please be assured that the team are aware of the impact that staff turnover has on the wellbeing of their service users, and are hopeful that they will see improvements over the coming months. Receiving positive feedback such as yours boosts morale within the team, and we will ensure that they see your lovely comments. We wish you and your grandson all the best for his future treatment. Kind regards, Patient Experience Team.
"Regular appointments"
Regular appointments. My son has just started medication so our appointments is to monitor weather its working. Service has been very good. Doctor has been very helpful and offered alternative help and treatment. Whenever called about my son the doctor has responded very quickly. We are still waiting for a care worker which has been going on since Oct/Nov last year. Doctor saying we have to wait because list is long. Very happy with service and treatment.
Dear Aisha

Staff very good but service not so good. I’ve been waiting for 40 mins now for my depression prescription when it should have been ready.
Thank you for taking the time to provide us with your feedback. We are pleased to hear that you feel that the staff are very good, however, we are sorry that you had a long wait for your prescription on the day, We will feed this back to the team to ask them to look into ways of improving the wait for prescriptions to improve the experience for our service users. "Receptionist are fantastic"
Both my granddaughters are under a doctor here who is a godsend. Always on the end of the phone. Both granddaughters have ADHD, AUTISM and PTSD. Doctor is always available when need support. I can call at 9am in the morning and the call gets returned straight away. Receptionist are fantastic, really helpful and friendly. I wouldn’t even move home because of worrying about losing this service. We have been using this service since last 10 years without having any problems.

"Took 4 to 5 months to get an assessment"
My daughter has been here three times. Took 4 to 5 months to get an assessment after which it took another year to get an appointment. They keep asking us what we want instead of telling us what help we need. When daughter is asked she says she is ok, so don’t end up getting the help she needs.
Thank you for taking the time to provide us with your feedback. We are sorry to hear that you are disappointed with the service your daughter has received at Blakesley Road hub, and that she waited a long time for an assessment. We will ensure that the team is made aware of your concerns. Waiting times are a priority for Forward Thinking Birmingham, and we thank you for bringing this to our attention. We wish your daughter all the best for her future treatment. Kind regards, Patient Experience Team.
