"A lot quicker then expected"
They explained everything to me. then they said there would be a 9 to 10 months wait. Then I received a cancellation via email. They arranged a follow up after the procedure too. Things were a lot quicker than expected.
They explained everything to me. then they said there would be a 9 to 10 months wait. Then I received a cancellation via email. They arranged a follow up after the procedure too. Things were a lot quicker than expected.
Referred really quickly. They have been brilliant and they're really helpful.
I got here early and it has been good. They said they will arrange a follow up appointment. I'm just happy to be getting help.
It was my first appointment after the referral. They did an x-ray and went through everything and arranged an appointment for the procedure. I'm happy with them.
It's been alright. It was a 4 to 5 months wait for a wisdom tooth removal. The process was great and I am very happy with them. I have had some more pain since so I called them and they got back to me straight away.
It took 6 weeks for a report to come back from my first appointment and they sent me an appointment for today. They are polite and helpful here.
I was advised to have my wisdom teeth out before having cancer treatment. They were ruthless and it was so painful. I know they were doing their job but it was so painful.
I had my tooth removed after the same day appointment was made on the afternoon by 111. I had the procedure done within an hour. I was very impressed with how fast they sorted it out and how super efficient they were.
Long waits which we knew it would be. Check in was easy and they were nice on the desk. Just hard when you're in so much pain.
They have been very good in my opinion. Very efficient and waits are good.
Could be less sluggish at x-ray.
A limited experience at the oncology day department. They have a backlog of patients at the two clinics.
Taken a year to get another appointment back here. The dentists explained everything and gave me options. I'm happy with how quickly things are now going.
Surgery was fine. I waited a long time for the appointment but the procedure was fine.
Everything was okay, from checking in and easy to find. It was a bit of a wait but that's expected. The staff are thorough and helpful. I'm happy to get help.
Referral took 2 weeks and I've come for a consultation today. It's all been alright, they've been good and have explained what they will need to do and what's shown on the x-ray, explaining options for having the rest of the treatment.
It's been very hard to get here, I have had to come quite far. My appointment was at 10:30am. I came last year to have my tooth out, they said they took out the wrong tooth and I'm in really bad pain, I can't eat properly. The staff need training, we are not toys to practice on. I'm in a lot of pain and not happy about the service.
Excellent here, I know they're students and training, but I think they're really good.
My referral was sent on from my regular dentist about 7 months ago, I didn't get much information, just a referral letter explaining things and that was it. I had one x-ray done this morning and all was explained really well to me. I'm going to have a follow up from the x-ray to discuss next steps.
Walked in this morning thinking I could just get an appointment but the lady at the desk said I would have to call 111, which I did, and they said they'd give me an appointment for 10am that morning. I've been seen really quickly, I'm really surprised by how quick the wait has been, even being told initially it could be a 3-4 hour wait. I feel like one of the lucky ones. I had an X-ray and it was all done within the last hour and a half, I'm impressed.
It's the long waiting time here, been here for over 2 hours and you know he is a young child and have to take him out of school. We have came for an X-ray and after the X-ray, we are still waiting over 45 minutes for them to call us back in. The long waiting time is a major challenge.
It took me like 2 - 3 months to get an appointment. I normally use the restorative service and there are no challenges at all, there's nothing really to talk about.
It was a nice experience. They were really easy to talk to. I have had to wait a couple of months for the appointment for the restorative service. Everything was explained very clearly and the service is very good.
It was very convenient and very quick getting an appointment in the restorative department. The wait time was around 10 minutes and all my needs were assessed.
I was seen very quickly and was sent away happy. Was sent on from my dentist as an emergency but hadn't heard from them so i called the hospital. I got through to them and they said they could see a referral had been made and then gave me an appointment 3 weeks later, which was today.
Response times have been good, sometimes they are not easy to get in contact with and it's not very clear who and what number to be contacting. My daughter was referred quickly on from Children's Hospital to oral surgery, they've been brilliant and cared for her so well.
I had an appointment and I said I was happy to have students look at my teeth as they needed people to practice on. I filled in the form and I've been called in for an appointment which went fine. They said they'd call me again in 6 to 12 months for a follow up appointment.
It's taken roughly 2 weeks to get the the appointment, they sent me a letter with and I was referred to oral medicine quickly. They've been quick today, done X-rays and gave me the results straight away and they tell you what's going to happen before booking a follow up appointment.
I was referred on from a dentist in Stoke-on-Trent and it's taken roughly 6 months to get the appointment. I'm not too sure why there's been a delay but they have communicated well. I've already been to see them and it was quite informative and explained what they wanted to do and even why they were taking the X-ray, all has been good. Happy with service so far, it just a bit long.
Dentist from Walsall referred me on and it's taken around 12 months. I had to ring several times to chase it. It takes a long time to get through to someone and when I did, it took a couple of weeks to speak to the right service. They then offered me the first available appointment and that was 6 weeks ago. I sometimes think to myself if I hadn't rang would I still be waiting.
They don't have a screen to show the name they're calling, so you may miss when they call if you cannot hear properly. There's only one screen in the waiting area and there should be more. My wife came today for an X-ray and to have tooth taken out, she was referred on from her dentist.
It has been a good experience, it's just the wait time. It took me 2 months to get an appointment. I was referred by my dentist and this has been my first visit.
The reception weren't that friendly at all. They weren't good to talk to at all. The wait time is not that bad. I was referred by my dentist to come here and it's my first time coming. I have done my X-ray and I am just waiting to see the dentist but it is taking too long.
The wait time is too long. We have been here for over an hour. We are from Worcestershire and have been referred by our own dentist. I am very happy with the service, apart from the wait time. It took me almost 6 months to get an appointment.
I really love the service here in restorative 4, when I went to my old dentist they didn't explain what to do, but they do so much here. They tell me how to brush and have cleaned my gums, I am so pleased. I wish I'd come before, I hardly use my own dentist and my gum problems have improved since coming here.
It's been alright, I've went for an X-ray, the results are instant but I have to wait for them to call me back in to discuss the results. The referral from my dentist took 6 months, they did say it could be up to 12 months so been quite quick so far. Dentist had same opinion as me and said the tooth doesn't need to come out.
It's been brilliant, been seen really quick. I got here for an appointment at 1pm and was told it could be a 4 hour wait but was seen quickly. They were lovely, good communication throughout and they told me to take a picture of my x-ray which saved me money. He was a really nice guy, he needs a pay rise. He didn't have to go into detail like he did, went that extra mile.
I was referred by my dentist to the dental hospital and waited over a year to hear from them about an appointment. I am very disappointed that it has taken so long as living with my dental problems has been very hard. I do experience pain and discomfort and living with unsightly teeth has caused me a great deal of distress, affecting my confidence and day to day life.
The clinics are amazing. I don't have any problems with them. the dentist I see is very good. Only issue is the waiting times.
I found it daunting. I didn't know where to go or what to do. I couldn't see the staff behind the counter as I'm a wheelchair user. It feels very impersonal and very rude to see monitors everywhere and not peoples faces.
Been on waiting lists for a long time. I finally had my extraction but now I am still awaiting other services and treatment such as dentures. But they can't do them and I have been told by another dentist they can't either.
Assessments were done here and it was lovely. Everyone was pleasant and welcoming. They explain things very well and go into lots of detail.
My friend is here for his wisdom tooth to be removed. I'm waiting for him and it has been longer than we expected.
They cancelled two appointments. The first appointment when I finally got in was okay. They were thorough and saw me quickly and on time. I was impressed. I have had neck scans and bloods that have come back abnormal three times.
They gave me a 3 course supply of medicine and then made a follow up appointment. The staff have been very good. Very very happy with them.
I had teeth removed under anaesthetic. Staff are really nice nice and kind.
See the students here, very good care. The students take good care of my teeth. They slot me in when they can.
I'm going to be put to sleep to have tooth removed. They have sorted everything quickly.
I came last week and they were good. Made me feel relaxed. It took three months for the appointment. There wasn't a rush as I wasn't in any pain. The staff have been sound, polite and all that.
Dentist referred me 2 years ago. They said I had already been given an appointment in October 2025 but I never received one so there is a lack of communication. They did sort one for today for me.
They have been good today. Efficient and I was seen quickly. They have arranged a follow up too to sort my tooth.
They're really good. The person who is a student looks after me well. He explains things and talks to me. The dentist then comes and checks so that the correct support is being done. I am here for new dentures with the metal plate. Also having a new front false tooth. I love coming here as it's good.
Messaged them to say I had noticed a change in my mouth and they didn't note it down. It's hard understanding what the letters are for. I was expecting my teeth out on last appointment but now I'm having to have another assessment and I don't understand. Better communication is needed.

We came firstly for x-ray and pre-op. They said they would only be removing two now thankfully instead of the 5 they said originally. They said it would only take 30 minutes. Going through pre-op was loud and you couldn't hear properly so there needs a quieter room when coming for the op. Everything has been cool and the parking cost isn't too bad if your there as a patient.

I attended the dental hospital after calling 111 with severe tooth pain. I had already been to the emergency dentist at Scott arms. I Think they may have made the problem worse. I was crying in pain.
Anyway, long story short, I waited around 1.5 hours to be seen. By the time I was seen I was in even more pain and crying, the dentist was amazing, she could see how bad I was and even managed to get me into x-ray ahead of the queue. I was told I had a severe abscess. The infection had started to spread to my nose and tongue etc
The staff drained it and gave me antibiotics. Then booked me in the following day for a check up. Within hours I felt much better.
The next day I had the tooth removed. The staff were all so kind, caring and more importantly extremely knowledgeable. If I ever have any issues again I won’t hesitate to go there.
Thanks so much to the staff that treated me.

I have an autistic son who is 9 and the hospital did not communicate properly and then blamed it on the original referral form sent to them. The wait was so long and my son was hyper and pacing. I was seen within half an hour so was fairly quick. I had a thorough examination, I was concerned over a lump. A biopsy has been ordered and a lot of photographs have been taken. A lot of care is taken. They did a good job. They got a second opinion too. The safe is nice and clean here too.
Thank you for taking the time to tell us about your experience at Birmingham Dental Hospital and we\'re very pleased this was positive. Your comments are very much appreciated and will be shared with staff.

Really good. Very good care from staff and they take time to listen. The specialists have sorted fake teeth that were poorly fit.

When a previous dentist left, I hoped it would mark the end of the terrible bedside manner I had experienced from some dentists at this practice. He was rude, far from gentle, and made me dread every appointment, so I felt relieved when I heard he was retiring.
However, today’s experience with my new dentist was just as disappointing. I couldn’t even tell you his name because he didn’t introduce himself. A lovely female dentist ended up taking over my appointment since my new dentist was busy, and she was absolutely wonderful. But when my actual dentist finally came over—for about 30 seconds—he didn’t acknowledge me, barely spoke, and just prodded my mouth before leaving.
What upset me the most was how he handled a concern with my brace. A piece fell off the morning before my appointment while I was brushing my teeth, and I know exactly when it happened. Instead of addressing me directly or asking for clarification, he spoke to his colleagues as if I wasn’t there, insisting that the brace couldn’t have moved that much in a day—essentially suggesting I was lying.
This was incredibly rude and made me feel uncomfortable about returning to the practice. It’s a shame because there are some wonderful dentists here, but it seems that those in senior positions lack basic bedside manner and the ability to communicate respectfully with patients.
On top of that, the constant switching between dentists has made my treatment feel disorganized. Every time I’m passed from one dentist to another, they seem confused about the plan for my braces, and I’m left feeling like there’s no clear direction. They also speak in jargon without explaining things properly, which makes it even harder to understand what’s going on with my treatment.

I have mixed experiences here. The good things are the helpful staff, good parking and it's clean. The areas of concern are the waiting times for appointments and they don't reply to your calls or emails.

The care was good. I was sent for nerve testing but they don't do it here. They didn't feel a lump so they didn't do an x-ray. TMD, jaw clicking isn't seen on the NHS anymore. They didn't think it was anything serious or a cancerous lump however.

The staff are friendly and very professional but on the punctuality side they give you one time and then see you way after that time. The receptionists are honest about the waiting times. Signposting around the hospital could be better as there are no signs from the main road. I waited 18 months for my referral.

My appointment was meant to be at 10am and it's now 11:15am so if your having a procedure and already anxious it just increases your anxiety. There were long waits last time. Today I am having a procedure to remove roots and I had to wait a while for the referral. You would think it would be speedy for those that have had cancer.

Nothing has been done since 7am and now it's 11am. I have seen a student they said I needed an x-ray. We ran out of time last time and it's the same this time. It's a waste of time and they repeated the same thing so it will happen again next time. There needs to be better ways to manage patients.

I now have no front teeth thanks to the negligence and malpractice of the Dental Hospital. I now need dental implants thanks to them and they refuse to accept a referral from my dentist. The Dental Hospital ruined my teeth and now they refuse to repair the problem they caused. It is disgusting. I have lost my confidence, my mental health has been wrecked and their 'complaints department' have done their very best to evade the hospitals responsibility for what they have done.
Thank you for your feedback, and we are so sorry for the difficulties you have described. If you would like to tell us more about your experience so that we can look into it further, please contact the Trust\'s Patient Advice and Liaison Service (PALS) on 0800 917 2855, or email contact.bchc@nhs.net.

The first one was a few years ago I had a wisdom tooth operation because it was on the side and I couldn't feel my face on the lower left. Now, I am waiting to have an appointment on Monday 14th October 2024 this is to get my lower right one removed under RA sedation and local anaesthetic as in an injection on gum/cheek. Last time I had 12 pokes because I could still feel the area it wasn't numb until the 12th one.

My son was referred onto them for a procedure under local anaesthetic . They said it would be gas and air. He is petrified of needles so when we got there they had to give him an injection. They should have discussed this as he could have had it done at his own dentist if they were going to just inject him.
Thank you for your feedback, and we are very sorry that your son\'s experience was not a positive one. If you would like to tell us more, please contact our Patient Advice and Liaison Service (PALS) on 0800 917 2855 or email contact.bchc@nhs.net.
All the staff I met there were brilliant and understanding what I needed from them
Thank you so much for your feedback, which will be shared with Birmingham Dental Hospital. We really appreciate you taking the time to tell us about your experience.
The student used an electric drill and they were brilliant. I don't mind who I see as long as they do the job. It was better to get there when it was in town as it was more accessible.
My son had a bad experience at another dentist when trying to extract his tooth. Referred by NHS 111 as an emergency. Dentists were so good with him they were calm took their time and put him at ease resulting in a smooth removal of the tooth and no more pain. Thank you Guys
I was referred by my GP. The dentist provided excellent support and care. Communication and treatment explanation was very good.
I went there for specialist treatment. The staff were amazing. Very caring and helpful. Excellent information and support provided.
I saw them every couple of weeks prior to June but they have cancelled appointments since as the hospital cannot do much because they are waiting for surgery to happen. They were really good before but they cannot help me much now.
It's very good. They're letting students treat me and its very good. They send regular appointments and I never have any issues apart from the location.
They took about 20 photographs. They can't decipher if its malignant or what not. They're very good. The technology they use is magnificent nowadays.
I had a preliminary appointment here and then waited 2 weeks for the appointment. They took photographs before I was sent to the QE. All straight forward apart from finding the way into the hospital.
Had to wait 10 minutes to be seen and they took my tooth out for me as I had an infection. The staff were good and told me to contact my dentist if I had any further issues.
They have called me to take my details and have said that there is a long waiting list before I can get an appointment. That was a while back and I haven't heard anything since.
Booked through the dentist as they were concerned about something in my gum. It took a number of months to be referred and when I got there it turned out not to be what they initially thought .
Went there and was provided with great help, support and information.
It was good. I had to have a tooth extracted and staff would come along to make sure the language used and to make sure it was accessible for me. Staff will always call before my appointment as deaf people have extra things we need to do before attending appointments. It's also to make sure interpreters will be there.
There's a long waiting list to have my teeth removed but it's been a long wait for an appointment. I was seen in July and the next appointment is in September next year.
Waiting for an a appointment since months. Tried to contact them to see how long it will be but can’t get through.
Quick and successful referral. Good staff and parking.
The orthodontist said the referral had gone through, I called the hospital and they said I was 3rd in the queue and it was stuck like this for 30 minutes. It's hard to get through and talk to someone and find out any information from them.
I was there last week and had an appointment for 9am but didn't get there till 9:15am due to traffic. They were very understanding and still saw me. I had about an hour with them. The service is a lot better than my own dentist, it's more one to one and they clean my teeth, do a scale and polish, they're brilliant.
Had to wait 3 years to have a tooth out because of covid. They weren't getting back to me. I phoned them and they said they wouldn't see me that year. I have an upcoming check up and that has taken a while. I know they're catching up with covid but I needed to see someone.
Referral for teeth to be taken out. One and a half year it took.
I had my braces put on here. They were really good. There was good communication. I was meant to have my braces taken off the day I had my baby and they rang me to see why I did not attend. They were really good and really understanding.
Went for specialist photos of my moles. I was referred to them by my GP practice and got an appointment. I thought they had sent me to the wrong place but they were brilliant.
The waiting time was good, didn't take a long time to get an appointment. But they're customer service skills could do with working on. The receptionists were sat having conversations with each other whilst there were long queues of people waiting to check in. The person who dealt with my tooth was good.
They communicate through text which is ok. I am happy.
Dentist really good. free dental treatment. I could never afford dental treatment, it’s good. they get in touch with me and I go once a year but they didn’t see me for 2 years because I was vulnerable.
Two years waiting list for dental treatment. It’s a joke.
Pretty easy, from check in to being seen. Daughter has had to be put under sedation for extraction.
Been okay, it’s what I‘d expect.
Coming here for 5 years. Communicate well, only issue with trying to get through on phones. Took 25 minutes to answer the call. Let me know where I was in the queue, but appointment was at 9:05 didn’t get through till 9:15 am from 8:50am. Just to say I was going to be late . Still seeing me today.
4th visit found it brilliant. The care and attention, making sure I am comfortable with having it done. Said I could stop if I didn’t want it done.
I have been up to the first floor. She ‘s been very good the student. I had a x ray and was very pleased.
I have such great treatment today. The students are great. They listened to me and took my needs into account. The only thing I would say is they need to change the way the chair is facing during treatment as it faces out towards the corridor and you can see other patients and I think that can be annoying for certain people but the treatment was fantastic.
8 years I’ve been coming here, referred initially from dentist. Had an illness that affected my jaw. So originally come for specialist treatment, had a program done by specialist that students were meant to follow. Clinician in charge of program would change at each visit and resulted in unnecessary extraction which lead to swelling of my upper jaw. When my mouth was healed they said they couldn’t do bridge worst after all. My other teeth had got worse. My treatment has been dreadful, lack of continuity and consistency has been dreadful.
I've been with them for donkey's years, they're very good. Call me in if they need to see me.
Had a mole went for a scan at dental hospital and said I would be referred in 3 months. 3 months later they referred me to QE hospital to have it removed.
My son was referred by local dentist. He had broken his teeth which had got stuck. He was referred and had procedure done. The surgeon explained that he would need to have a surgery to have his broken teeth removed and make the gap wider because other tooth had come through. He now has two front teeth that are wonky so has to have braces. He has been referred back by the dentist to for the orthodontist. We have been advised there is 3 years wait. The staff were fabulous and were very good with my son.
After 30 plus years of excellent service the current situation is appalling. I have had 4 appointments over a period of 18 months with each one cancelled weeks before it is due. 3 letters to the hospital have been unanswered.
Very good parking. Very good professional team. Everything is on time.
They did my filling which came out after 2 days. Very poor treatment received from trainee dentist.
Waiting for a procedure at the dental hospital. Have been waiting 6 months for appointment. They are pushing procedure over referral time. Same old story, could be organized better.
My 3 year old had to have his tooth removed and it was really good. There were no problems, it was nice quick and easy and they were really kind to him.
Really good, they allowed people to go in with me because of my anxiety, which put me at ease. Even during Covid they were seeing me. They're outstanding!!
They were good, they just gave me a good clean.
They really got on board with my 5 year old son and made him feel comfortable when he had his teeth extracted.
Having to wait for 4 weeks for a referral. 5 star for through explaining as why I need to have operation.
My son been referred by his dentist in July 2021, we have been waiting till February 2022 to have just consulting appointment on which we have been said 2 of his teeth need to be removed (they been causing pain on and off, in meantime we have visited dentist number of times because of that). In April the pain started to be so severe he is on painkillers 24h/7 from past 3 weeks and even then dont always work, he been on antibiotics, dentist even attempted to remove it without any success as the anesthesia seem to not work leaving my son in even more pain. My son wasnt on priority list until dentist contacted hospital that he need to be seen asap then we got appointment for extraction for July, JULY... child with constant pain, waking up at night staying awake because of pain till morning, having trouble eating, should attempted school and wait from February till July for tooth extraction...

My daughter was referred by her dentist in 2019 .She was seen and promised extractions and braces to correct her teeth , her jaw doesn’t line up , she had a tooth coming through the roof of her mouth and lots of overcrowding. I was contacted once through lockdown and asked if I still wanted to be on waiting list ,which of course I replied yes and since then I’ve contacted numerous times on the phone and given all kinds of excuses covid staff shortness , only taking people off waiting list for braces , which she needs . We informed them she was in pain, was told they would email consultant and would be contacted back yet we haven’t heard .I called again today to explain the tooth through the roof of her mouth is fully grown and she had another coming through side of gum which was giving her pain .I was told she is classed as urgent but they didn’t have the staff last year, so was put back a year .Now they have staff she will possibly be seen in autumn this year , which is another five months away .I was told to contact our own dentist if in pain How is that if she was referred to yourselves in the first place as they carnt do the work required? I think it’s disgusting to leave my daughter , a young girl who’s very self conscious of her teeth and in pain with false promises. no appointment to be seen and most likely won’t be contacted anyway !

Thanks to the hospital refusing to give me more than 2 appts a year (no appts during covid), I have had 4 abscesses and had to spend hundreds of pounds at a private dentist, as nowhere else was available. I am now looking at possibly losing 2 teeth.
Thank you for leaving your feedback, I am really sorry to hear of your experience .
Please can you contact Anne Pemberton, Patient Experience Opertational Manager 07713089574 / anne.pemberton3@nhs.net or our PALS service on 0800 917 2855 / contact.bchc@nhs.net , so we can look into this.
Excellent service by both students and supervising practitioners.
Despite the lockdown accessible and sorted problems.
I had a severe crossbite, I should have had surgery but only had braces to aesthetically correct my teeth. 4 years later and I suffer jaw pain every day, migraines etc. Horrible experience, rude orthodontist who made crude remarks to the nurse. I was never informed of how my treatment was going.
My daughter waited for three years for her orthodontic treatment. The last appointment was canceled in March and since then we haven’t heard anything from them.
I was regularly going to Hospital for the last three years and they were unable to detect my cancer. It was only detected eight months ago and I got part of gum removed.
Good
Thank you for your feedback, we appreciate all feedback. This feedback is both short and sweet and entirely to the point! Thank you.

Walls of toilets are dirty. Disabled toilet was out of order for weeks.
Waiting rooms are fine.
Dear Ms Core
I am disappointed to read that you found the toilet walls to be dirty and that one of the accessible toilets was out of order on several visits. I would be interested to hear more about which toilets were affected in this way, so that I am able to check that repairs and cleaning have been completed as required. Please do get in touch with me via email (Alison.last@bhamcommunity.nhs.uk) or phone (0121 466 7128) so that I can take more details of which toilets and the dates when you experienced the difficulties so I can escalate to the Trust Estates and Facilities team.

The service is good, however a lot of the time it's hard to hear the staff calling patients names and a lot of the time they're misheard due to noises around the hospital. Might be worth having a screen were the names appear.
Thank you for your feedback about the good service but the poor acoustics at Birmingham Dental Hospital.
We are aware that there are times when patients find it difficult to hear names being called, especially on the ground floor, because of the design of the main atrium and the poor acoustics which exist. As a result of this and other similar feedback, staff have been when calling patients in to clinic, to move forwards towards the seating area and project their voice, repeating the name several times to be sure they are heard.
The software used for the clinic display screens is being looked at, to see how they can be used to display information to help patients know anticipated waiting times, and what to do if they have not been called in to clinic when expected.
I am grateful for your feedback as it reminds us that although the clinical care is good, the overall experience can be improved by improving how patients are called into clinic.

Had an appointment within oral medicine and I went for an x-ray. On return I handed in my slip to the oral medicine reception who did not forward it to the dental nurse resulting in an unnecessary hour wait for myself. The receptionist stated that it was left to the dental nurse to apologise. I believe his actions were disgusting and appalling.
I am so very sorry to read of your disappointing experience and the long wait caused by the nurse not receiving your x-ray form back into clinic. I am also sorry that the receptionist did not offer an apology for the error and oversight that occurred, and said to you that it would be the dental nurse's responsibility to apologise.
If you would like to contact me via email (Alison.last@bhamcommunity.nhs.uk) or phone (0121 466 7128) to give me details of the date and time of your appointment, and a description of the receptionist the matter will be addressed directly with him.
Once again I offer my apologies for the poor impression you have been left with, and I look forward to hearing from you in due course.

1. All staff are friendly, professional and caring
2. Waiting times can sometimes be lengthy
3. Some appointments could take place over phone or evenings to assist working patients
Thank you for taking time to provide feedback on your recent visit to Birmingham Dental Hospital. it is good to know you have found staff to be friendly, professional and caring. I am sorry you have found waiting times to be longer than expected, and would like to let you know that we are working to provide information about anticipated waiting times and the facilities available whilst waiting.
Your comment about making some appointments a telephone appointment is of interest, and has been shared with the management team to obtain a clinical view about how safe this would be and whether this is something that could be useful to both patients and clinicians.

Overall, waiting area is very good, staff friendly but last time I came and had a problem with parking payment, The machine displayed I don't need to pay because I was here for just 15 minutes but week after I received parking ticket of £60 which was strange.
Thank you for your feedback. I am sorry to read that you experienced a problem with your parking payment - you should not be charged if your stay was shorter than 20 minutes, and therefore I would welcome the opportunity to hear from you directly to take more details and to arrange reimbursement for an inappropriate 'fine'.

Clinic overrunning and no notification of this.
Unable to hear names being called clearly, if not using the screens to call patients then staff should project their voices loud and clearly.
Nice bright waiting area.
Thank you for taking time to give your feedback about waiting times and waiting areas at Birmingham Dental Hospital.
We are currently looking at how we can make better use of the display screens to inform patients of waiting times, and staff have been reminded to move towards the seating area and to project their voice, repeating the name being called several times to avoid patients not hearing when they are called. Unfortunately the acoustics in the main atrium, particularly on the ground floor close to the café area, are not ideal and some patients have found it difficult to hear when they have been called.
It is important that if patients feel they have waited longer than expected for their appointment, and are worried they have missed being called, that they approach a receptionist or clinic staff member to check.
Thank you again for your very useful feedback.

Waiting times can be very long, I have had to wait for 4 hours after my appointment time to be seen in the past.
Thank you for providing feedback about a previous visit to Birmingham Dental Hospital when you had an exceptionally long wait to be seen. Whilst it can be difficult for the clinical teams to always keep clinics running to time, it is very unusual to keep any patient waiting for this amount of time. If this was a recent experience, I would welcome the opportunity to look into the situation on that day, to understand why the delay occurred. Appointment at 10am, was called in within 10 minutes but the x-ray machine wasn't working properly so was asked to wait in waiting area.
Now been waiting 45 minutes and no one has come out to see us. I had to ask a member of staff to find out what the hold up was. It looks like we had been missed off the radar!
Very disappointing when you are having to wait all this time with an anxious child.
Appointment times could do with being more on time as sometimes we can wait over half an hour or more past our original appointment time!
Thank you for providing feedback about your recent visit to Birmingham Dental Hospital. I am sorry your waiting time has been longer than 30 minutes on occasions. It can be difficult for the clinical teams to always keep clinics running to time; but if you would like to get in touch with me, I can look into why you have experienced long waiting times in the specific clinic concerned, and provide you with an explanation for the delays. Dental hospital is amazing and the people are kind, professional, enthusiastic and work with me in collaboration.
Waiting areas are clean and fine.
Staff and waiting times ok but they need to shout loudly when they are calling patients for appointment, in reality they just whisper it slowly by standing in the door. They should in the main waiting area and loudly take the name so that nobody is missed otherwise people can miss them and loose the appointment.
Thank you for your feedback. The acoustics in the main atrium mean that when staff call patients into clinic it can be quite difficult for some patients to hear. As a result of your feedback we have reminded staff of the need to move towards the seating and to project their voices, repeating the name a few times to avoid being unheard. We are also looking at how we can use the available display screens to help in alerting patients to anticipated waiting times so they know if they have time to visit the café or restaurant should they wish to and be back in the waiting area in time to be called.
Thank you again for your feedback and the useful reminder that staff are not always calling patients loudly and clearly enough to be heard.

They are very good & systematic only downside is when you call them to re arrange the appointment, you have to wait in a long queue and it takes 30 mins on hold to get them. They should have proper call centre.
Thank you for giving your feedback about your experience of contacting the hospital about your appointment. I am sorry your call has been held in a queue waiting to be answered. The calls are answered by our in-house call centre but at times the volume of calls is such that the response time is longer than we would wish it to be. We continue to work to improve this, however if you prefer you are welcome to email the hospital via dental.hospital@nhs.net and leave a message about your appointment which avoids the need for you to wait in a call queue.

It is ok. I have kids and maybe something could be provided to entertain them. Waiting times are ok too.
Thank you for your feedback, and I am sorry if you found there to be a lack of facilities for children. Our children's services on the first floor do have a small play facility in the waiting area; however if you visited the unscheduled care (urgent care) service on the ground floor for a child to be seen, you may not have seen this.
Your comments have been shared with the management team who will look at whether it is possible to add a play area to the ground floor, and if this is not possible due to the limited space available, whether parents can be directed to the play area on the 1st floor whilst waiting.

Waiting time on phone is very long. I waited for 45 mins online to change my appointment and get to right person. People get confused by the signposted for x-rays as it says Imaging. Myself and few others were looking for x rays department and struggled a lot until I was told that go to imaging. They need to change that signboard, otherwise clean place and good, supportive helpful staff.
Thank you for giving your feedback on your recent experiences when contacting and visiting Birmingham Dental Hospital. I am sorry you have experienced a wait for your call to be answered. There are times when the phone lines do get very busy and calls are held in a queue waiting to be answered. We are constantly working to improve this, and hope you will not be kept waiting so long in future.
Your feedback about signage has been passed to the management team for a response. The suite of rooms where x-rays includes our medical photography and clinical illustration service and is therefore known as the 'imaging' department rather than just x-ray. However, I fully accept this can be confusing for patients, and will ask for clinical staff to be reminded to advise patients to look for signs to 'imaging' rather than to 'x-ray'.
I am delighted to see that other than these issues you found the service and facilities to be good and staff to be helpful and supportive.
Thank you again for your feedback.

I came as emergency patient and waited for two and a half hours, 2 weeks back, it was during half term. They did a temporary job (filling) and now I am here for permanent filling waiting since last one hour. Apart from waiting time other facilities are super.
Thank you for giving your feedback on your recent visits to Birmingham Dental Hospital. I am sorry you have experienced a wait to be seen in our Unscheduled Care service. This service is for patients who are unable to see their own dentist (or are not registered with a dentist) and is a very busy service. Patients who use this service are offered an appointment slot by NHS111. As it is not possible to predict how much time each patient will take to be assessed and treated, some waiting is unfortunately inevitable.
I am delighted to see that other than the waiting time you found the service and facilities to be 'super' and hope you have now fully recovered from your treatment.

Staff communication is good but at times you have to wait for longer period say 40 mins before you are seen. Parking, staff, seating & facilities are good.
Thank you for taking time to give your feedback on your recent visit to Birmingham Dental Hospital. I am delighted to read that staff communicated well and you found our facilities to be good. I am sorry for the wait you experienced past your appointment time, and trust this was explained and an apology offered at the time. Whilst we do aim to see patients as near as possible to their appointment time, the quality of care is very important to us, and therefore there can be inevitable delays when/if patients take longer than expected and when a student requires advice from a supervisor or for their work to be checked before progressing.

This is a good service, calling patients should be done both by display screen & voice.
Thank you for giving your valuable feedback. Unfortunately the acoustics in the very large atrium of the hospital makes it difficult for staff voices to carry effectively and therefore patients do not always hear their name being called. We are currently looking at how we can use the available display screens to better effect, and to ensure patients know when they have been called in to the clinic. In the meantime, staff have been reminded to project their voices across the waiting area, and to repeat the name several times.

Check in was great, seen by lovely dentists and staff, had to go to x-rays quick and easy everything was explained clearly, as my son had autism the language used was great no hospital jargon just plain understanding. Wish all services were like this.
Thank you for your lovely feedback on your recent visit to Birmingham Dental Hospital. I am delighted to read that you had a very positive experience, especially in light of your son's individual requirements.

Needs more clear signposting for toilets (its hiding under a banner), Patients calling voices should be loud and clear.
Thank you for your feedback on your recent visit to Birmingham Dental Hospital. I am sorry you found the signage for the toilets to be hidden by a banner and would welcome some more feedback about the location of the banner so that it can be moved quickly.
We are aware that the acoustics in the very large atrium can make the voices of staff difficult to hear when they call for patients. We will of course remind staff of the need to project their voices more and are currently looking to use the display screens more effectively encouraging patients to speak to a receptionist should they not have been called within 30 minutes of their appointment time.
Should you wish to discuss your experience in detail, please do not hesitate to me via email Alison.last@bhamcommunity.nhs.uk; I look forward to hearing from you.
