"Good care from A&E department"
I have been sent here by my optician when they have had concerns. I have been seen and treated well by the staff and doctors. They provide a good service.
I have been sent here by my optician when they have had concerns. I have been seen and treated well by the staff and doctors. They provide a good service.
Lucky, bearing in mind there is a doctors strike and I was there and back within 2 hours. They did all checks with no further treatment.
Very very good, apart from the wait sometimes. They have called me twice to offer me a cancellation appointment.
From booking appointments helped by staff, right through to treatment and operations by consultant, corrected my eyesight. Aftercare is superb.
Brilliant with him and his eye care. They're really accessible. Take all his need into account. Great, understanding staff.
I was there all day. I had double vision suddenly. When seen it was good and they sorted it. I have my glasses now.
They're great but it's a bit back and forth between them and the QE. They're great though.
The wait time on Tuesday 21/10/25 was horrendous. I thought my father was only in for an ultrasound scan on his eye at 10.30. Although we had the scan at 11.00, we were kept waiting until late evening and didn’t leave until after 8pm. If they had told me beforehand that we would be sent to A&E to wait then I would have turned down the scan appointment and booked privately.
The health care is top notch, but is it worth waiting for over 10 hours? For me, no.
Food is decent though. Coffee not.
I had a crosslink operation at BMEC. It was day surgery and I was able to go home the same day. I was happy with the treatment and care I received. I had two follow on appointments and then a one month review during which I was told that I was at the point of needing a corneal transplant. The staff were very supportive and informative throughout.
You can book appointments online via a link. It is not too bad as you can zoom in to see better. However, I would want larger print letters, the option to book appointments over the phone, and more accessibility in general.
Rang BMEC number. Answered by operator but after trying to get to triage nurse transfer was cut off without warning. Tried again, this time voice recognition worked (tip: say 'Eye Centre' not the full 'Birmingham and Midland Eye Centre' as instructed). Got through 2 automated levels then told to ring back 'at another time'. What time? What day?? How many times is the patient supposed to try to get emergency eye service??? Not fit for purpose.
Staff are always extremely friendly and helpful. My two Consultants have also always been very approachable and have explained the rationale behind my treatment plan.
Eye check up arranged by GP quickly. The service has been thorough and very good staff.
I was there for three hours and the care was excellent.
I attended BMEC for a vitrectomy, EMR peel and cataract removal. From the outset, every member of staff, from HCA to Consultant was friendly and efficient. The clinic was extremely busy and there was, perhaps inevitably, a certain degree of chaos - notes missing, forms not completed and passed on etc, but the clinical care was, as on previous occasions, second to none. In the end, after reviewing my scans and re-examining me, my Consultant decided to revise the procedure due to the risks involved. He gave a very clear explanation, and although I was initially a little bemused, I respect the fact that he was honest and open and clearly had my best interests at heart. All in all, it was a very positive experience and I am grateful to all the staff involved in my care.
Fine, wonderful. Ophthalmology see me every 2 to 3 months. They're very good at following up with my cataract issue I have had since August.

Really good. I had cataract removal and the service was very good. I have also used A&E and its very good. The toilets are filthy though and blocked. There was toilet paper everywhere.
Nothing was to much trouble. Everyone worked as a team. Very caring professional team. Reception organising was excellent nothing was too much trouble to explore, working very hard non stop everyone.
I have the onset of cataracts and they're keeping an eye on things. The food in there is excellent and always piping hot.
I ended up at the A&E after my eye was irritated. I waited for 2 hours and they gave me antibiotics. They told me to come back if I needed anything further.
Excellent care and treatment for a detached retina.
I was treated there for a detached retina. The staff were very helpful and kind.
I had my cataracts done over there. Good care and treatment.
Long wait, initial exam said melanoma probably reoccurring need to have follow up imaging tomorrow. Still waiting for appointment call four days later. Telephone service just cuts out, no help.
They got me an appointment after 12pm to 1pm which works better for me.

My wife was seen early which was excellent. They have treated her very well so far.
Okay. Good follow ups. The staff are okay too. You do go from room to room as you see a lot of people. I think it's good to see everyone on one day as it saves multiple trips.
My initial consultation was in February and then waited about 6 months. I had two consultants and hoping this is the final bit. Perfect treatment so far and runs on time.
Not bad, check in was easy. The people who come out and call the names can be quite quick and if they're wearing masks you can't always see what they're saying. Names on a screen would be more helpful.
Last time I came it was quick to see them and today was quick too.
I had to wait 20 minutes over my appointment time. Never seen on time. The car parking is good though.
Mom comes regularly and everything is fine. Never any problems. Good with follow ups too. The staff are fine.
Usually good and very competent. They keep to appointment times too.
Very good staff but very busy and long waiting times .I'm happy with the service in general but the car park is packed.
I found the self check in difficult and the waiting times are long.
Not happy with the waiting times at A&E. My symptoms grew worse whilst waiting.
Happy with the service provided.
Never had a problem here. They look after me because I'm diabetic so they keep an eye on me. They gave me laser treatment because my diabetes is not very well controlled.
The last time I came here I asked them to provide me with a follow up and they never did.
The service works really well. The follow up appointments just don't work well and you have to do all the chasing up.
I went to A&E with a swollen eye and was seen within an hour. Excellent care provided.
I went to A&E and was seen within an hour. Excellent care and treatment was provided.
In the last 8 months this is now my 7th appointment and I still haven't got a diagnosis. Most of the time I see the registrar. I want to be seen by a consultant all of the time. There is no continuity of care as my GP is unaware of my results.
Amazing doctors and nurses but I have to wait for a long time before my appointments. The appointments run late most of the time.
Staff are very kind and helpful. Most of the time I was seen within 2 hours, which is okay.

I was in hospital for a seizure. I had a good experience.
I lost vision in my eyes. They sent me from one department to another. Each department worked well with the other. I can't fault them. They sent me to the main hospital for further tests too. It was all done really quickly too.

I was referred by my optician as I lost vision in my right eye, I waited 7 hours and no answers just tests, I was asked to come back the next day at 8:30am, they repeated the same test and no updates. Rude staff, no care at all for the patient, no communication, no updates and the receptionist was the rudest of them all, no consideration or any information interrupted me when I tried requesting updates.
I am a very patient person however, this clinic was awful. I still can’t see from my right eye and have to now request a new referral.
My father had eye surgery at BMEC and is very pleased with the outcome. Excellent treatment.

A long wait, a year and a half for the appointment so will be a long wait for hard lenses to be made. They're trying their best but the wait is quite frustrating.
Sometimes it can be slow as it's a busy hospital. The care is very good. They have made me much better and stopped me going blind. They have been very good.
Really good and they don't take long to make the lenses. They see me regularly. Sometimes you have to wait a while but the staff are very good.
I've had treatment here in the past and it was very good. Very happy with the service received.
It's fine, no problems. I have had two operations here. One was very stressful and not very good. The last one was great,
It's quick and easy to check in. The staff are really friendly. One suggestion would be how they call their patients. They often call several patients at one time and you have no notification that you have been called so if you have popped to the toilet you don't know do you.
I have been using them for 3 years for my eye condition. I am here to see if I need injections. The staff are okay, the waiting times vary. They keep to the appointments though.
Waiting for a scan, they're really good. I have been in the past. The staff and waiting times are good even when busy. I have been here for 10 minutes and seen two members of staff already. Really good.

Appointment was okay but trying to get a taxi reimbursed was a nightmare. They said I needed to get a letter from the doctor and when I took it to the hospital they refused to reimburse the money. It took them a month to decide that too.
Having been advised to visit urgent care at the eye centre I arrived at 11.30. I was triaged and had my eyes tested pretty much straight away. Then the problem began. There seem to be adequate nursing staff and admin staff but doctors are very thin on the ground. The few who are there seem to do a lot of walking around but not much of actually seeing patients. It took four hours in the end before I was seen by a junior doctor.
Very kind and helpful staff when I had my cataract surgery there.
They checked my visions to see if it was the same. I have an appointment next week to get the proper glass fitted in my glasses.

Perfect, very good. A long wait but it's okay as I know it will be.
My husband has glaucoma testing and they said it would go on from 8AM until 4:30PM. I prepared for a long day. This was a follow up and it's been great so far.
It's been a positive experience. I had surgery last Tuesday and then a follow up today. Been waiting for my consultant and a visual.
Everything is fine and the wait has been fine. I'm happy with my experience.
We were only told about the appointment Friday for an appointment on Monday. We had a text on Friday. He is happy about the appointment.
An excellent visit today, with my husband. All of the staff and equipment were excellent. Got everything we needed and we're due back tomorrow. Had all eye tests and drops. All excellent.
I have been a few times. They don't send letters that they should. I booked an appointment 3 weeks ago. I wasn't told it was an all day appointment, I just got a text. They have been testing for glaucoma for 3 years and its normally an hour appointment. Better communication is needed. The staff are fine and doing what they can.
I waited a long time for an appointment here. I thought today I would find out my results but I haven't. I am feeling more than disappointed. They have given me eye drops for glaucoma and I have a follow up appointment. I have had the same tests done again too which is confusing.

The food is fantastic, restaurant is ace. The staff are lovely. They explained I would be here all day. I had vibrations in my eyes. They cancelled one appointment and I had to call several times to get another. It was an admin error not the staff's fault.
I thought today I would find out my results but I haven\'t. I am feeling more than disappointed. They have given me eye drops for glaucoma and I have a follow up appointment. I have had the same tests done again too which is confusing.

Very pleased with the treatment and care provided.
My daughter has received excellent treatment here. All the appointments run on time and staff are very helpful.
Long waiting times. Been waiting since August for Mom's operation and the pre-assessment was horrible. They just asked what medication she was on and didn't do any heart checks etc. I found this horrible. It should have been face to face and not over the phone. It left us feeling anxious about the operation.
Excellent and timely treatment.

I was given the tel number of the Secretary of the Consultant who was looking after my Partner to ask for feedback of his treatment. When I phoned the Secretary Secretary she was very rude and abrupt and cut me off on phone

I have an appointment on Thursday, and I have been sent a text message reminder, and four separate letters all saying the same thing. This is a waste of public money, and clearly more checks need to be in place to stop wasteful administration.
I care about the NHS and I'm happy with the care I've had at the eye hospital, but this is just silly.
Very kind and helpful staff. Always seen on time and things are explained in a very nice manner. Communication with me and the GP is excellent.

Attended A&E abt 2 wks ago due to suspected bleeding in left eye. Left eye was very swollen & painful. Right eye has Glaucoma & limited vision due to lens implant opacity, retina damage & inflammation. Waited abt 4.30 hours. Consultant was very good & thorough. But wait was too long.

Brilliant, go there every 6 months and they are brilliant. Easy to get help off them. They give me a certain number and any problem they just see me.
It's okay, but there's long waits for appointments and sometimes we have to remind them about appointments for our son.
I went to see about my eyes. They treated me all right. They were very good at telling me about my treatment. Took a long time to get an appointment.
It didn't take too long to be referred to them. My eye kept watering all the time. After the GP made the referral, they saw me quite quickly.
There was no interpreter available when I arrived for my appointment, I couldn't access the service because of this. I need to have a deaf/blind interpreter. So I ended up going home. I could not attend the appointment.
Was transferred from QE to BMEC for back of eye check-up and they said that I would have to wait a few hours to be transferred back, so ended up asking them to take my cannula out and took a taxi back to the hospital.
There's no issues, it's really okay. When it's kids, it's not a problem. But as adults, we struggle. But son has had regular appointments and check ups, we've had no issues.
Overall good but insufficient Drs/Consultants.
Long wait times must affect outcomes & sight.
My 6 year old son has been suffering with constant eye infections. They are happening more or less every month. As a result he has to have a course of antibiotics and steroids.
He was put on a waiting list to hear from a consultant months ago . We are still waiting. They don't even seem worried about the fact that a young child keeps on getting recurring eye infections. As a concerned parent im very stressed about the impact this treatment will have on his eyes long term.
Get regular eye checks, they send me emails and texts to let me know when the appointment is. They are good. they also sent me an email this morning for the CT Scan.
Woke up once and went to A&E at the eye hospital as I woke up blind and they said I have a rare eye condition. I was transferred to Heartlands.
Waiting system horrendous, can’t explain it. You go there in the morning, you will be seen by someone then they tell you to come back at 3pm, it’s just weird.
Everything was good. I am happy doctor was good and checked my eyes.
Had to wait, too many people there in the A&E part. It was too busy I didn't like it so I left. I had an Ulcer in my eye and I was there 5/6 hours.
They did a scan which was the third scan I'd had on my eyes in a month or two of each other. This came back inconclusive once again. I then had another examination and eye scan. They found something wrong and had to go to go back to the doctors surgery. They've now said I have cataracts and need to wait for them to mature before they can be operated on.
I was referred to them 18 months ago and still haven't heard anything.
Staff good but very long wait.
Everything good except 2 weeks waiting time. Staff was amazing.
Becky White Bear Testing
It was good, when you go to the professionals they make sure everything is normal. But they forgot I had an appointment several times and then said I hadn't registered when I had the letter to say I had.
I feel like the hospital does not bother with me even though I have problems with my eyes.
My husband has been waiting for his cataract surgery for 15 months.
I have had six operations over there. The staff are very kind and helpful.
I only have praise for the Eye hospital, where I was referred to last year. It was not an urgent referral but to check something out my optician had noticed. I was treated efficiently , thoroughly and with great courtesy.
test
They have been fantastic, with so many years of support and care.
Very good and helpful, but had to wait for 1 hour before being seen by the doctor.

The staff are very good and very caring and professional. Waiting times are long though need more eye drs
My son had to attend the A&E as he scratched his eye. The waiting time that evening was 6 hours. They have a triage traffic light system of red, amber and green depending on urgency and as my son needed to be seen, but it was not immediate urgency (rated amber), they booked him an appointment at the Urgent care centre the following morning. This was really appreciated and ensured we did not need to wait for hours, and the following morning we were one of the first to be seen. It was great service from start to finish. Thank you!
Late cancellation (on the day) of appointment for my 18 year old son. Despite his age and ringing him on his own personal mobile they were insistent on speaking to one of his parents in order to cancel... at very late notice.
I had been waiting six months for an appointment and the day before I was due to attend they phoned and cancelled my appointment.
I have waited over 15 months for an eye hospital appointment. My optician has sent 2 letters and my GP has also written. Still not had any response.
Very good I have annual screening. but last 2 appointments not had letter re outcomes and their phone system hopeless! Worst I've come across. Offers options at every stage so very difficult to speak to anyone if none of this options capture what you need. Pick outpatients and end up back at appointments!
Very good service.

Arrived for my appointment, very pleased with the reception. Was seen quickly, please wear the covid precaution.

I had an appointment on 11th Feb. Checked in and then saw the waiting room which was very full. Very few seats available and people standing around not wanting to sit adjacent to other patients. I turned around and told a member of staff I would not stay here having been shielding for months. I was not prepared to put myself in danger.

Very good, quick and dealt with my eye problem quickly. Felt really safe as fully set up for COVID-19 including hand gel, masks and social distancing.

Online survey questionnaire: What has worked well for you during lockdown?
Answer: Birmingham Eye Hospital. Very good service. The consultant provided superb service.

Have to keep contacting them for appointments, been on eye drops for years still awaiting appointment since last year.

Lots of appointments coming up at eye hospital and already attended three. They have been ok but they are very busy.
Car parking at eye centre is very difficult as not enough spaces. I already had a ticket so thought I would have to pay if I left without parking,
Their care is brilliant. They kept a close watch on me. They provided information on diet to keep maintain eyesight. They paid for some medication that helps eye. Very regular contact & efficiency is next to none. The system that they have at the eye Hospital is really good.
I went to see mr Matthews in November Iv had a brain injury and my vision has gotten worse so has my head , he told me to see a Psychiatrist because I had distorted vision . I’m disgusted with people like this . Now what do I do . I can’t look after my beautiful 8 year old daughter anymore. ????
Always so busy that you can see it affects visitors experience as they are pushing you through the processes. But they do the job.
Waiting times to see a consultant awful and the car park far too small. Position in corridor to wait is dark and not pleasant. Can’t fault treatment, good treatment when eventually seen.
1) The phone number on your website is for city hospital not eye hospital
2) After being passed around I was given a direct eye hospital number of 0121-5076780, hold for nearly 40min then get cut off with a robot telling me no one is available to take my call
3) Got a number for complaining dept and then the staff is on training?!
4) See the A&E last summer, was told need to be seen by the consultant urgently/within 2 weeks- nothing happened
5) After chasing for weeks, finally get to seen after 5 weeks, was told will be followed up in six weeks-nothing happened- told to carry on using steroid until next appointment
6) only been seen after 6 month- am I supposed to be using the steroid all these time?!
7) Went to A&E in Nov- was told to be reviewed in two weeks, use steroid until being seen. Was promised it won't be as busy as the outpatient team- 6 weeks passed, nothing! am I supposed to be using the steroid all these time?!
8) Went privately, was told develop early sign of Cactus, and could be the cause of prolonged use of steroid! Need an answer!
8) Try to ring today- then experienced point 1-3!
Visited A&E and outpatient department as the choice below don't allow multiple choices!
The staff didn’t give any information at all. The waiting time increases every hour on the hour. I was sent in as an emergency by my optician and arrived at 10.55am and was still waiting to be seen at 18.10pm. During this time a total of 7 patients had been seen. I am still waiting to be seen now and will update this review with the time I get seen!
Both my retinas detached and when I was referred I was told I would probably lose my sight. That was some years ago, I can see, drive, work, exercise and live normally. I still come regularly for check ups and will always be very grateful
only problem was waiting times. every care taken to quickly diagnose and treat my recurrent eye condition over the last 5 years. Every confidence in the specialists skill and experience. awaiting surgery - every confidence in the surgeons skill.
I had a serious infection and they quickly identified the underlying cause, initiated treatment quickly as well as arranging for treatment of the underlying causes, my consultant , together with members of his team, took time to go through scans with me & kept me fully informed as to progress...
While being seen to by an Eye Doctor at the Eye Centre with my partner, 3 Other Doctor's and Nurses entered the examination room without permission or even knocking. One other Doctor even discussed another patient's examination while in the room! This is appalling and against Doctor/Patient confidentiality standards of practise, as well as the NHS code of conduct. At the very least it's rude. Can not believe this is acceptable.
I have received surgery and follow up Laser treatment for torn/detached retina and all Surgeons,Doctors,Nurses,Receptionists have been nothing but thoroughly professional in the quality of service I have received.
Yesterday my wife and I spent over FIVE HOURS sitting around waiting to be seen. There were no water dispensers, the staff did not seem to have a clue as to who we were or when we might be seen. It was a disgrace and a sad reflection that this is the only facility in the West Midlands.
On my last two visits for appointments,, organised by the department, I arrive to find a delay to my appointment of at least one to one and a half hours. This is wholly unacceptable. The appointment time is not controlled by me but by administrators who seem to have forgotten N.H.S. stands for National Health SERVICE. People should remember that along with other tax payers I fund the NHS and I expect world class treatment.I suggest whoever is responsible gets it sorted out or finds other employment. Quickly.
the last visit I was made to think I was wasting their time, I didn't see a doctor or receive a letter afterward, I went every 6mths 3yrs ago, as a Doctor found a mole at the back of my eye, and wanted to make sure it didn't alter, I have not had an app for 14mths , so my eyes must have suddenly got better and the mole disappeared !
BMEC: Amazing staff, all the staff who work there from reception desk staff through to the clinicians were amazing. The clinicians took their time and explained everything to me. The clinical support staff went out of their way to make sure I had an appointment sorted before I left. 5* service.
No clear. treatment plan, not clear who named consultant is. Have to chase for every appt. Cannot contact consultants about treatment issues. Plan that was outlined at 1st referral does not appear to be being followed and my son is rapidly losing sight with a disease described as slow moving. Hospital is too far away to call in easily without an appt.
My doctor referred me to BME after raising concerns about the vision in my left eye.
I was offered an appointment within 3 wks for end of August or choice of 3 earlier cancellations of which I jumped at the chance.
My appointment was on 3 July with a doctor who gave me a thorough eye examination including a eye scan all on the same day!
My concerns were addressed and I have now received a letter with results and a review in 3months time.
A BIG thank you to the doctor who I found to be very professional and courteous.
I nearly lost an eye due to an acute and sudden eye condition I had never had before. Whilst saving my eye, which I am very grateful for, my lens was damaged so I can't see out of it clearly making it impossible to drive at night. 6 months later I am still awaiting treatment.
This eye centre is by the far the worst NHS experience and the worst medical centre I have been to and is worse than my local A&E. My partner suffered a injury at work we originally went to Solihull who sent us to this hell hole. No information given, no next steps, over a five hour wait to see a doctor. Receptionists had no idea what was happening absolute chaos!!!!!! No pain relief offered we had to ask the nurse.
I was referred by my optician as an urgent referral. This was missed and dealt with as a routine referral. The optician definitely made an urgent referral as the first consultant showed us the form and it was clearly marked. - Failure 1
After being told I would have an appointment within 2 weeks and not receiving anything, I contacted hospital to inquire. I was told that I was 'in the system' but no available appointments yet, as referral had to be triaged and they were very busy and people were on holiday. I was surprised it had to be triaged as was supposed to be an urgent referral. I chased the hospital several times and each time I was told the same thing. Eventually I got a Saturday morning appointment, as a cancellation.
On arrival, there was no one on reception, so you had to scan your appointment letter. While waiting, my wife had to help 3 people register their arrival, as they didn’t know what to do. - Failure 2
The consultant I saw that 1st appointment told me I was on the wrong pathway and he would have to re refer me back to the urgent pathway, as he couldn’t do anything for me. - See Failure 1
At the next appointment (now on the right pathway), they were going to repeat all the tests I had already had done and there was no plan for me to see a doctor that day. I was quite cross as weeks had now gone by and I felt my time was being wasted. They agreed a doctor would see me when I insisted.
Eventually, I received a course of 3 Lucentis Injections and should have seen the consultant for a review exactly 1 month after the last injection. I had to chase an appointment again and was told I was 'in the system' but no date available. Eventually after calling, I got a cancellation but by then too late. The consultant said he would need me to have another set of 3 injections and made sure I had a follow up exactly 1 month after the last injection to be able to see what impact it was having. - Failure 3
Everyone has been very pleasant but the administrative arrangements let the whole system down. I have had to chase appointments and feel I have wasted my time and that of clinical staff by firstly being put onto the wrong pathway and secondly not having a follow up appointment given to me at the right time, after the injections. I also now have to have another 3 injections, potentially unnecessarily. This is a waste of NHS resources.
While the waiting area is quite bright and airy, the seated areas in the corridors are quite oppressive. The TV is tuned either to children’s TV (not appropriate for the demographic) or Jeremey Kyle- It is hideous to sit waiting for what is a scary procedure and hear people screaming at each other on the TV. Couldn’t they show something more pleasant and calming. There must be DVDs available of nature, animals, fish, countryside etc.
It is often difficult to hear names being called when it's busy and nurses have to shout. It all adds to a pretty stressful experience.

Waiting area overcrowded with no space for wheelchair users and wheelchair friendly double door reduced to single, signage too small, better ventilation needed, patients calling should be through speakers.

I had an appointment, I come here every month. It's normally pretty straight forward. I like that you can check in yourself.
Chairs are green and purple you can see them.
They need better A&E and pharmacy waiting areas as people are standing around and blocking the entrance, its crowded but the outpatient waiting area is good.
Thank you for your comments. We welcome feedback to improve the quality of our services and to tell us what we are doing well.
We came to A&E at 11am and we have been told that appointment will be at 2pm. After that we have to get medicine so it will take time, probably all day. There are not enough seats and some people are having to stand, we are lucky to get comfy seats. We have been before so brought a picnic as if you don't have money with you it will be difficult as no lunch.
The toilets are disgusting.

I travel from Stafford.
Auto-log in is great.
Waiting times used to be really long but that has improved. Appointment system does not work as I need an appointment normally every 12 months, but this never ever comes through. I always have to chase it. They always blame the computer - ongoing for 3 years.
Thank you for your comments. We welcome feedback to improve the quality of our services and to tell us what we are doing well.
The waiting times are too long. Inconsistent with hospital letters. We have sometimes received the appointment letter too late, after the appointment has passed. When we call to re-book it may take months to get a new appointment. They blame postal service. I have to take time off work to rearrange to accompany my mum so it causes inconvenience.

We come here very regularly. Generally its good however the waiting times are long. We are here for my husband today parking is very difficult for people with disabilities. It would be helpful if you could call in advance and book a space for people with disabilities so not to miss out on care.
I have a child who has autism and if I had to come here with my child I would be very worried in advance. There is not enough parking. Different needs need to be taken into account. I wouldn't choose this hospital for my child. They should have special places for people with special needs.
The children's area is important.
Staff work efficiently under pressure but waiting times are too long.
For care it is good.

More seating required as it is quite congested
Proper signage with bright colours would be of great help.
Proper patient calling systems instead of doctor or nurse coming out and shouting
Care team is best in the world

As a disabled person who uses a wheelchair there is not enough space for me and my wheelchair. They should make more provision for wheelchair users .

NHS is providing a great service to everyone, people should be thankful.
Its a hospital after all, they are not here for a picnic, they should be ready to wait and of course its very difficult to please 500 patients who come here every day
Doctors and support team are great.

I am a regular visitor to this centre and find that the waiting room is always packed with people. The staff however are very efficient and people are taken quickly. The facilities provided are very good and the most important thing is the super treatment provided.
Thank you for your comments. We welcome feedback to improve the quality of our services and to tell us what we are doing well.
Everything is excellent apart from parking which is not available all the time and is expensive as when it is available.
I have been coming here for 10 years and everyone is very caring and helpful.

Good level of service provision but have to wait for a long time to be seen. Tests were done yesterday and I am here again to see the doctor. I spent 9 hours yesterday and 9 hours today at this hospital. Everything should be on the same day.

Treatment, staff and facilities are very good
no reply to phone calls all the time

Filthy seats had not been wiped down
The children's toys were filthy and should be kept clean
Seen 2 times and took an hour, so not to bad.
Not too busy just the seats put me off because they were vile

Alright area - but very busy, so not enough areas to sit.
Waiting time 2 hours (average)
Clean area
The staff are nice, but higher ranked staff are not very emphatic.
Thank you for your comments. We welcome feedback to improve the quality of our services and to tell us what we are doing well.
Friendly staff.
Waiting time was long but clinic was busy so this was understandable.
Information should be given about the processes which are happening e.g. why are scans given etc.
All waiting rooms and examination rooms were kept nice and clean.
Only one member of staff was on reception which causes long queues for those registering.

Not a long waiting time - just got here
The waiting area is ok
Not a very accessible hospital - hard to get here
Thank you for your comments. We welcome feedback to improve the quality of our services and to tell us what we are doing well.
Clean space with lots of chairs/toilets any services - restaurant, don't really like the food
Waiting time is 30 minutes
Good doctor - explains everything she does, she explains (can have flexible appointment)
Very good experiences
Car park is an issue
Water facilities - lacking visibility
Areas that could be improved - reusable hospital cups for water to stop use of plastic ones.
They don't ask for feedback often

I attend the clinic for injections and have been attending for 3 years. Over the years the waiting times have reduced and I have recently being seen much nearer to the time of my appointment.
Its always busy here but I have found the injection staff and other nurses have been very friendly and helpful. Sometimes doctors are a bit standoffish but on the whole very good.

Waited yesterday for approx. 1 hour and appointment was made for today.
Service seems good so far.

Every nurse and doctor should have a microphone in front of them when they are calling to be clear and louder. Waiting times should be in tolerance range e.g. under 1 hour anything above is not acceptable.

I have been coming here for the last 10 years and things have improved over the years. Good and professional staff, neat and clean place. At times have to wait for an hour but then we have to understand it is a hospital and hats off to them for seeing so many patients every day.

I attend every two weeks they are good as they look after me.

Very fast seen too, only can speak highly of the hospital.
Happy with the service overall.
My experience has been very good and I have been treated very well.
I get here very early to ensure that I get seen.
We have a long way to travel but and am used to it and the waiting times. Once there wasn't a seat so we just sat at the café.
We are very happy.

Doctors are good but eye A&E is very poor. Record keeping is very bad always have to wait for medical records to be transferred from one service to another, even the hospital triage nurse doesn’t have access to patient records.
Being born deaf and relying on a BSL Interpreter to help with communication in hospital is stressful.
I as an outpatient in eye hospital now have 3 appointments in 1, with waiting periods between :
Reading Eye Test
Field vision test
Seeing a consultant
A BSL interpreter is booked for 2 hr session. Time does run out forcing the interpreter, on behalf of me, to remind and hurry nurses for the next test to take in time for consultancy.
Last time my interpreter was only booked for less than 1 hr and had to leave on time for next appointment. When with consultant I felt under pressure to rush through - thus not satisfied afterwards. Not fair as the consultancy was the most important of all appointments. I have accepted three appointments in one go as I live long way (travel by bus, or taxi if I have to be there by 9am) and don’t wish for 2 day trips!
To be fair the consultant was aware of the problem and apologized for NHS!
My glaucoma appointment was changed and I did not receive notification, I ended up going to the hospital as I did not know, I had to wait nearly 2 hours before I could be seen
I had a tear on the retina with increased flashes and floaters and was so well looked after. Thank you so much to the wonderful staff at BMEC for their expert treatment, thorough explanation of my eye condition and excellent patient manner both on the telephone and when I arrived. The treatment was top class and exceptional. The staff are so lovely and caring. Thanks to the Sister with her superb knowledge when I spoke to her on the phone, the Nurse for her amazing care and looking after me and the specialist opthamologist for her outstanding examination and explanation.
Rapid Service for person under 16
Hugely busy department, organised very well considering the pressures. I was anxious and worried further to an eye injury but felt informed and cared about throughout the various processes. Highly professional staff allayed my concerns and explained everything to me every step of the way. Thank you so much.
Visited the eye hospital - with something in my eye. arrived about 11.30. All the staff were friendly and helpful. Saw the Opthalmolgist (?) about 2.15pm and she was amazing. Within minutes everything was sorted. Thank you.
I have been a patient at the eye hospital for over 23 years . I have been under the care of my doctor and his team i have always received excellent care and treatment .
When i have had any concerns regarding my eye condion and have contacted my doctor he will always make time to see me ..for which i am greatful for .
Have been a patient for over 26 years and without the dedication of my consultant and his team I would no doubt have lost my vision
I have now been attending for injections for 12 months. Staff are always very pleasant and always explain all procedures. Sometimes appointments run a little late but that seems to be a given at most NHS hospitals.
It took us a while and a little bit of hard work to obtain an appointment with the BMEC. However once we arrived it didn't take long to be seen, even though the clinic was heaving with people. The service we received was fantastic. However what is true is that they have issues handling the volume of telephone calls as it took us ages to get through as the lines are always engaged.
Phone support is appalling. Number rang out many times, then hung up trying to transfer. Then told to call another number which is no longer in use and finally given an email address!
Always treated with respect and consideration
Very nervous but was made to feel at ease by staff. I had a.lens replacement done. For 35 years I could not see out of my right eye and thanks his team now I can. Thank you all
