How do I get an MMR vaccine?

MMR stands for measles, mumps, rubella (sometimes called German measles). These are highly contagious and can be dangerous diseases. Getting an MMR vaccine is the best way to protect you and your family against them.

Who is eligible for the vaccine?

Children are given a dose of the vaccine at 12 months, followed by a booster does at 3 years and 4 months. They will be invited by their GP.

Adults who haven’t received one or both doses of the vaccine can request them from their GP at any time. You can also request catch-up doses for your child if they have missed any.

How can I check if I’m already vaccinated?

Your GP surgery should be able to tell you if you are fully vaccinated. If this information is unavailable, it is not harmful to get vaccinated again.

Is it safe?

Many studies have confirmed the MMR vaccine is safe, and millions of people have been vaccinated in the UK and across the world. Any side effects are normally mild, and serious side effects are extremely rare.

Does the vaccine contain pork?

There are two versions of the MMR vaccine available. Priorix does not contain any pork gelatine, and you can request this from your GP surgery when you book a vaccination.
