Every care home has its own story, shaped by the people who live and work there. As demand for care continues to grow, it’s more important than ever to understand what life is really like for residents.
Our new report shares the voices of Solihull care home residents and their families, highlighting what’s working well and where improvements are still needed.
People spoke positively about staff, who regularly “go above and beyond” for them, and homes that feel clean, safe and kind. Activities like crafts, bingo and outings were often praised.
At the same time, not everything is working well for everyone. Some residents said activities felt too basic, especially for those without dementia. Others raised concerns about staff shortages and high turnover. And while most residents felt their feedback was acted on, only half of family members said the same.
The report includes clear recommendations for Solihull Council and care providers to improve care, from personalised activities to better communication. Together, these changes can make care in Solihull more fulfilling for residents and reassuring for families.
